Opinion Surveys

Do you have a true assessment of how your employees feel about your company? Are they satisfied with their work environment? What do they view as lacking in their employment? Do they plan to stay with you or are they looking elsewhere? Do they trust the leaders of the company? Answers to these and many more questions are brought forth through the use of Opinion Surveys.

Why not let Sterling Consulting Services work with you in the development of your company’s opinion survey (sometimes referred to as attitude or climate surveys). We have the expertise to develop the appropriate questions to give you a proper measure of your workforce. Surveys can be company wide or can be for designed for certain regions or segments that seem to be having the greatest need. Show your people that you care and that they are important by finding out what is important to them!

Turnover Analysis

In these days of unemployment hovering around the 2.5% to 3.0% range in many of the major metropolitan areas in the United States, turnover is on the increase. Do you measure yours? Do you know what segments or geographic areas of your business is having the most problems? Most importantly, do you know why your employees are leaving?

The cost of turnover to an organization has been discussed by many people for many years with varying answers. To us the fact that there is a cost associated with turnover is enough for us to want to find out why our employees are leaving. Leave the costing to the statisticians and let’s get down to the reasons why?

Recently, we were involved with a company which was having high turnover in two departments and did not know why. The original (and most common) answer was to pay them more. We did not feel that this was the true problem, but was really more of a symptom. Our research found that in neither department did pay make it into the top couple of reasons why people were leaving. So this company was about to throw good money after bad and would have continued to see the same turnover a year later. Instead we were able to identify the source of the problem and kept them from dealing with the symptoms. We can do the same for you.

Focus Groups

The facilitation of focus groups is one of the best tools available for you to get a true reading on what is right and wrong in your work environment. You may ask why should I pay Sterling Consulting Services to do this. The answer is, people have a tendency to be more truthful in expressing their real feelings with someone whom they feel is truly neutral. Additionally, there is the confidential factor that an outsider provides.

This process of taking a random sample of employees from all areas of your operation is one of the most cost effective assessment tools available. In addition, this process will give you feedback in a much quicker time frame than other assessment tools. The typical time frame from meeting to finished results is less than two weeks (depending upon the number of meetings and the geography covered).

Union Avoidance

During the past year and a half the AFL-CIO, under the leadership of John J. Sweeney, has been making a major push to increase their organizing efforts of businesses like yours. Are you in a position to keep this from happening to you? We can help you asses your position and if necessary firm up the trenches. Once a union organizing campaign starts at your location the costs go of defending your turf go through the roof!

Our approach is to work with you on taking the appropriate proactive measures to keep an organization attempt from ever getting started in your company. It is an investment on your part to bring in an outside firm to look at your organization and to determine your areas for improvement rather than having your employees going to a union to ask them to do the same.

In our opinion, present day labor laws in the United States favor organized labor in the areas of what unions can say and do in an organizing campaign. While the company’s hands are somewhat tied, the unions have a free reign! Preventative measures such as an employee relations audit of your organization are substantially less costly than fighting off an organization campaign.

If it is already too late and you find yourself under attack, then give us a call and we will be glad to bring the resources of our team to your aid. We have experience with going head to head with unions such as: The United Steelworkers, United Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees, The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, United Food & Commercial Workers as well as the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers.
